RCT Initial Qualification Course Synopsis

Supreme Safety Technology is able to provide an Initial Qualification Radiological Control Technician (RCT) Course in support of the United States Department of Energy (DOE). Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired the base fundamental theory and practical application to safely perform the job function of an RCT. This program has been developed to meet the safety training requirements established by the United States Department of Energy. A description and philosophy of this training program is provided below:
Program Design
The focus and goal is to instill a cognitive thought process through comprehension of physics theory, health effects, and how they effect the associated work related application. Classes are scheduled based on student interest and consist of 128 total contact hours.
Course Material
Part I RCT Fundamental Academic Training Study Guide
Prescribed DOE fundamental course work is used and includes chapter exercises, six retention quizzes, a practice examination and a final accredited examination. Students must score > 80% on the final examination. Chapter titles and subject matter are listed below:

Part II Radiological Control Technician Initial Qualification Practical Training
Classroom instruction is provided for practical application of RCT work scope and responsibilities.
Course subject matter includes:
Radiological Instrumentation Personnel Contamination Monitoring
Radiological Work Permits Response to Wounds & Skin/Hair Contamination
Radiological Postings Air Sampling
Contamination Surveys Respiratory Protection
Radiation Surveys Response to a Contamination Release
Part III Radiological Control Technician Practical Training Exercise
After completion of the Practical Training course, an all-inclusive practical training exercise is utilized to provide "hands-on" experience in a "mock-up" environment. Performance topics include:
Radiological Instrumentation (Operation and Usage)
Radiological Job Coverage (Briefing Requirements & Work Area Setup)
Task Performance (RCT Job Support and Survey Performance)
Response to a Contamination Release
Response to Unexpected/Elevated Radiation Levels
All students are required to actively participate and complete any associated documentation to be considered successful and to receive final certification.
