MERRTT
With over 3 million radioactive material shipments made in the United States annually the need for professional radiological safety training is greater than ever. All emergency personnel : fire departments, police agencies, EMT's, hospital staff and all other first responders, will need to know the proper procedures to follow and actions to take in the event of a radiological emergency.
The Transportation Emergency Preparedness Program (TEPP) was originally created by the Department of Energy (DOE) to integrate transportation emergency preparedness activities under a single program to address the emergency response concerns of federal, state, and local officials affected by the shipment of radiological material. The training component of TEPP includes the Modular Emergency Radiological Response Transportation Training (MERRTT) program.
MERRTT has a modular design, consisting of 18 concise and easy to understand modules and was designed to provide facilitated (instructor led) or self-paced instruction.
